Supernova’s solo artist spotlight has been a hallmark within programming since the festival’s inception, serving as a tribute to an individual artist that is recognized for distinction in their work and dedication to their practice within the field of digital motion art and animation. Denver Digerati is proud to celebrate the work of AUJIK for Regeneration, an entity long shrouded in mystery, whose very essence is firmly aligned with the year’s theme. As a self-described “nature/tech cult,” AUJIK, aka Stefan Larsson, has taken the ideas of evolution and technological progress to their logical extremes, through a growing body of work that is truly transformational as contemporary art embodied through digitally derived time-based media. This year’s spotlight provides several components developed in association with AUJIK, including an extensive interview accompanied by a video program curated for the online presentation; integration with the festival’s live Silent Screen component, featuring excerpts from one of AUJIK’s recent animations across five public LED screens; and a first ever documentary video produced by AUJIK as well as tutorial detailing the artists revolutionary workflow. Larsson will also serve as one of this year’s three jurors overseeing the festival focal competition and awards. The AUJIK solo spotlight serves as the first online component of Supernova and will be available throughout the month of September.
